I still remember the first time I visited Berlin very clearly. It was about 9 years ago and it was a schooltrip, organised by my sociology and psychology teacher. So of course the tour we got was in the perspective of the former, and focussed on the broad history of Berlin. For example we visited the Holocaust Monument, the Berliner Dom, the DDR prison with a guide who had been imprisoned there herself (!) and if this wasn't enough we also visited Sachsenhausen, a concentration camp from World War 2.
It was very heavy and it had such an impact on me, but also I fell in love with Berlin. The vibe and liveliness of the city with al it's creativity and the feeling that everything is possible, made a big impression. So when I got home I told my love we had to visit Berlin ASAP. And so we did. We try to go at least once a year. Every time I arrive in Berlin it really feels like coming home. And I even miss the city when I'm back home in the Netherlands.
I'm still figuring some things out for myself and in the meantime I'm working on some new things/projects. I have to say it gets better, but I still get very stuck and don't know what to do. And then I realise, it's time to go to Berlin again. This vibrant, creative and lovely city which has become my second home, where I can put things in perspective and dare to dream of new adventures.
And last week, it was that time of the year again ;)
What is your go to city or place?
