The culottes

Oh man, what's up with the weather here in the Netherlands?! After my week in Berlin earlier this month, where we've had the most springiest weather, we're now back to Winter? To keep the Spring-feeling I've decided to show you photos of one of the outfits I shot in Berlin featuring the culottes.

The culottes... I think you've seen them come by a lot lately. Everywhere you look it's a must-have-item for spring / summer. Normally I'm not a big fan of must-have-items, because I think you just have to wear whatever you want and not because something is a 'trend' at the moment, but with the culotte I have to say I'm a big fan! And it's indeed a must-have-item ;)

I was searching for the right one for some time now and trust me, it wasn't that easy to find. I wanted a black one (of course) because you can combine it easily and you can wear it on different occasions. Also, I wanted a wide one, but not too wide because I'm not that tall (which is an understatement :P). I saw a few that were perfect, but also very expensive and I didn't want to spend so much money on it. And then I saw this one at Uniqlo when we were visiting Berlin.

I like that the model is a bit more formal, so you can style it with pumps, a blouse and a jacket and wear it to the office, but you can also dress it down, like I did in this shoot. I decided to style it with a black turtleneck with tiny glitters, my white nikes and because it was a bit chilly that day I also wore my new vest-coat designed and made by my very good friend Ebby Port (you can read about my visit to her atelier here). And last, but not least, I added my new burgundy bag for a pop of color.

What do you think of this outfit and of the culottes in general?

A visit to Ebby Port's atelier

Last month I went to the atelier of Ebby Port, a good friend of mine, to take some pictures of her atelier and of some of the clothes she designed. She has her own fashion brand, also called Ebby Port.

Ebby graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academie, but it wasn't until she began working for Kiki Niesten, a luxury design boutique in Maastricht, that she started designing her own clothes. So in 2013 the fashion brand Ebby Port was born. She focuses on small collections that reflect on time, art and music and comfort is highly valued.

She is also one of the designers represented by Fashionclash which is an international and interdisciplinary fashion platform with a main focus on a new generation of designers / artists. Ebby has participated, several times now, at Fashionclash Festival and also participated in various other projects in the Netherlands as well throughout Europe and the rest of the world. She even had her own fashion show at FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland. Here she showed her latest collection called 'And then, there is dreaming'.

I think the name of her latest collection sums up perfectly what you can expect from her clothes. Her prints and patterns are made by hand. This way you truly have a one of a kind piece.
I really love her collections. It is something totally different from what I normally wear (minimalistic black, white or grey-tones) because it's quite colourful. But they are still easy to style and combine and the fits are really comfortable. And let me tell you, you'll feel like you just walked out from the catwalk ;)

Oh, and most important: her webshop will be online very soon

The flared jeans

The flared jeans... long time not seen. The pants with the 'disco-feel' and for me it also brings back memories from my time in High School. Ohh, nostalgia ;)

I was sceptical at first. Back in the day I hated pants-shopping, because it seemed that nothing fitted me right and I almost always had to adjust something. Wasn't it the length-size, then it was the waistband. So when the skinny jeans appeared I could not have been happier and I started wearing jeans more often. Now I suspect it wasn't only the skinny jeans, but it also had something to do with my teenage-state-of-mind ;)

But now, the comeback of the flared jeans. Because I always loved the silhouette a flared jeans would create, I decided to try on some different models and see what would happen!
Luckily a lot of shops have length-sizes nowadays and the first one I tried on was actually perfect. Okay, I have to wear it with heels, but still, it fits perfectly.

I went for a dark blue jeans, because this you can wear on various occasions. You can wear it to the office, more casual or even to a party.
For this shoot I styled it with a classic black-and-white striped shirt, a big burgundy cardigan and my black platform ankle-boots.

I have to say I was really happy with the result, but my love wasn't as pleased with it as I was. He just kept asking if I would put on my skinny jeans and kept looking at it if it came from a different planet...
But I resisted and just said wisely: just give it some time, you'll get used to it :P

What do you think, already in love with the flared jeans or still getting used to it?
